Promotional Poster

A printing company in the South Plains region of Texas offered area towns illustrated posters featuring their local businesses. The sponsoring businesses received a bundle of posters to hang in their establishments and sell as souvenirs. The printing company typically hired a local artist familiar with the town to create the illustration. An artist colleague of mine was originally slated for the project but had to back out, so I agreed to take it on—and convinced the skeptical print shop owner that the illustration could be done digitally in Adobe Illustrator instead of as a traditional painting. Either way, it was a time-consuming project, but creating it digitally allowed flexibility for revisions if needed. I photographed all the buildings around town and layered the illustration on top, a process that took about a month of full-time work. This is the kind of project I thrive on. The final poster was a hit—everyone in town wanted one, and the shop owner was pleasantly surprised.
